CONNECTION BASICS
Jitter is the wobble in your ping.
Latency is the delay for a response. Jitter is how much that delay changes. A stable 45 ms can feel fine; a connection that jumps between 20 and 120 ms can feel rough.
What it feels like
Players notice rubber-banding, delayed shots, voice glitches or a character catching up in bursts.
How to reduce it
- Use Ethernet when practical.
- Stop background uploads and downloads.
- Use a nearby 5/6 GHz access point and current firmware.
- Enable SQM/QoS on a capable router with real line rates.
- Run Full checks at different times to separate home issues from route issues.
Ping2GG reports jitter from its response samples. It is a useful signal, not a guarantee about every server.
